- Generation
- Tap a generation (↓) to jump to its full breakdown below; the colour maps back to the timeline strip + legend above.
- Price range
- P75 → P25 of asking — the middle half of listings at that age sits inside this band. Outliers above and below excluded.
- Down payment
- MAS Notice 642 LTV cap applied to the age's median asking: 30% when OMV is up to S$20k, 40% above. Max loan tenure 7 years. Rows marked * mix both OMV buckets — we display the conservative 40% figure so the quote never under-states what a luxury-OMV listing at that age would actually require.
- Availability
- High when this age's listing share is ≥1.5× the model's uniform expectation, low when ≤0.6×, medium otherwise. Model-relative, so an evenly-spread model lands all-medium.

- Resale strength
- 100 − 3× annualised tangible-decay (COE-stripped). Fitted from each variant's asking-price-by-age regression then averaged at model level.
- Peer set
- Every same-segment model with ≥5 active PARF listings whose variants fit a depreciation curve. Practicality isn't plotted — it's a body-shape constant within the segment, so it would be the same for every dot.
- Quadrants
- The crosshair marks the segment median on each axis. Top-right (Safe Bets) is strong on both; top-left (Hidden Gems) holds value above what the brand reputation suggests; bottom-right (Bargain Buys) is well-built but depreciates fast — buy cheap; bottom-left (High Risk) is soft on both.

Verdict
Newest BMW 5-Series — same modern B-engine family as the curated G30/G31 5-Series. M340i-style equivalent (530i B48 + 550i B58) + electric i5 G60 sister. 48V mild-hybrid integrated across the range. Cars 0-2 years old; first-2-year teething window applies. Builds on the established BMW B48/B58 framework with iDrive 8/8.5 (materially better than iDrive 6). Verify all early recalls closed via VIN.

What's good
- 550i (B58 inline-six) with full BMW service history + iDrive 8.5 — same B58 framework as M340i / 540i G30 / 740i / X3 M40i. The boring durable BMW inline-six choice; the cleanest G60 pick.
- Post-2024 build with all the early-launch recalls already done — new platform first-2-year window typically has launch-window recalls. SG dealer paperwork via VIN check is essential.
What to watch
- B48 530i whose service book only shows BMW's 30k km oil interval — same chain-guide-life rule as every B48 platform (X1 F48 / X3 G01 / 1-Series F40 / 4-Series F32). Treat as if a refresh is on the horizon.
- A parallel-import G60 with no SG dealer service trail — new platform = first-2-year teething via software / TSB. Without SG dealer paperwork no clean update trail.

Verdict
B58 540i is the durable hero — same engine as the X3 M40i + M340i, no chain story, no HPFP weakness. B48 530i needs the oil-filter-housing check: pre-Aug 2017 builds cracked at 60-70k miles, fixed on B48D/B48C variants from July 2019. xDrive cars MUST have matching-spec tyres or the transfer case pays. Same B48 oil-discipline > mileage as the X3 G01.

What's good
- 540i (B58 inline-six) — same proven engine as X3 M40i + M340i — the durable pick across this gen. The B58 is comfortable to 200k+ km when serviced; no chain weakness, no HPFP story.
- 530i (B48) built July 2019+ (B48D/B48C variants) — the revised oil-filter-housing addressed the pre-Aug-2017 cracking pattern; later cars don't carry the headline B48 cost line. Build month on the chassis plate.
What to watch
- A pre-Aug-2017 530i with no oil-filter-housing receipt — the housing cracks and leaks — the cracked housing typically fails at 60-70k miles + leaks coolant + oil. Repair is ~S$1.5-2.5k; budget if undocumented.
- An xDrive on mismatched tyre brands or sizes — that destroys the transfer case — the AWD transfer case gets destroyed when tyre circumferences differ; the repair runs into low five figures. Walk a car that's been driven on mismatched rubber.

Verdict
Six-cylinder F10s (528i N52, 535i N55, 530d N57) sidestep the headline N20 chain-guide story entirely — the durable picks of the gen. Pre-Feb 2015 520i/528i (N20) carry the same chain-guide recall as the F22/F23 — verify the work was done. Post-LCI (2014 facelift) is generally better-built.

What's good
- Six-cylinder F10 — 528i (N52), 535i (N55), 530d/535d (N57 diesel) — sidesteps the N20 chain-guide story entirely. The inline-six engines on this chassis are widely regarded as the more durable picks; a 535i or 530d with full service history is a high-confidence buy.
- N20 520i/528i with documented chain-guide replacement under BMW's extended warranty — the recall fix is real and BMW covered it. Receipt converts the headline gen risk to a non-issue.
What to watch
- Pre-Feb 2015 520i/528i (N20) with no chain-guide replacement receipt — same affected build window as F22/F23. Cold-start metallic rattle is the warning; failure cascades expensively. Walk unless heavily discounted with verified-fix paperwork.
- Airbag recall (Takata) status unconfirmed on early F10 — early F10s were caught by the Takata airbag inflator recall; verify the work was done before driving the car off the lot. Affects most pre-2014 builds.

Verdict
N52 530i is the durable hero — among the most-recommended six-cylinder NA engines BMW ever built, no chain story, no HPFP weakness. N62 V8 (545i / 550i) is the engine to avoid unless paperwork is exhaustive (valve seal + alternator-bracket gasket are well-known cost lines). M5 V10 (S85) is its own world — rod bearings are a scheduled service item. ZF 6HP transmission needs fluid every 80-100k km (BMW's 'lifetime fill' is wrong). Avoid early CCC infotainment (2003-2007); post-2008 CIC is a different car. Most E60s now 15-22 years old — every service item is due.

What's good
- N52 530i with full service history + post-2008 CIC infotainment — the boring durable hero of the E60 chassis. Naturally aspirated inline-six, no HPFP, no chain story; post-LCI cars also fixed the worst CCC infotainment glitches. The lowest-risk way into an E60.
- ZF 6HP transmission with documented 80-100k km fluid service — BMW calls it 'lifetime fill'; every specialist disagrees. Receipt is the single best durability indicator for the gearbox across the entire gen. Mechatronic + valve body service is the alternative.
What to watch
- N62 V8 (545i / 550i / 650i) without exhaustive service paperwork — the engine the E60 era is best avoided for. Valve seal job is S$5-8k; alternator-bracket gasket leaks oil onto the alternator. Walk unless the asking is salvage-grade + paperwork is in hand.
- Pre-2008 build with CCC infotainment showing failures — blank screen, reboot loops, no menu response. CCC is essentially obsolete now; replacement with refurbished CIC is S$2-4k locally. Tolerate or price it in.

Common questions about the BMW 5 Series
- How much does a used BMW 5 Series cost in Singapore?
- Most used BMW 5 Series on the market are around 9 years old, asking roughly S$56k–S$75k (typically about S$61k). That's the age with the widest choice — and the most sellers competing, so it's where you'll have the most room to bargain.
- How much does a used BMW 5 Series depreciate per year?
- A used BMW 5 Series loses value at a fairly steady pace — around 23% a year — with no real plateau. An older one costs less but keeps falling at much the same rate, so there's no single 'bargain age': buy on price and condition, not on timing.
- Is the BMW 5 Series reliable?
- In our read, the BMW 5 Series scores 55 out of 100 on brand reliability. That still varies by generation and how the individual car was looked after, so always check the service history before you commit.
- What should I expect to pay for a used BMW 5 Series with a given mileage?
- It depends on the exact variant, age and mileage — a higher-mileage car should ask less. Use the price modeller on this page to get a fair-price range for a specific age and mileage, so you know what to offer.
- Where do these BMW 5 Series figures come from?
- They're worked out from current used-BMW 5 Series listings in Singapore — asking prices, mileage and registration years — not past transaction prices. We refresh them regularly, and we flag thin data rather than guess.
