Price range
P75 → P25 of asking — the middle half of listings at that age sits inside this band. Outliers above and below excluded.
Down payment
MAS Notice 642 LTV cap applied to the age's median asking: 30% when OMV is up to S$20k, 40% above. Max loan tenure 7 years. Rows marked * mix both OMV buckets — we display the conservative 40% figure so the quote never under-states what a luxury-OMV listing at that age would actually require.
Availability
High when this age's listing share is ≥1.5× the model's uniform expectation, low when ≤0.6×, medium otherwise. Model-relative, so an evenly-spread model lands all-medium.

Brand reliability
Consumer-survey composite — JD Power · WhatCar · Consumer Reports. Same score for every variant of a given make.
Resale strength
100 − 3× annualised tangible-decay (COE-stripped). Fitted from each variant's asking-price-by-age regression then averaged at model level.
Peer set
Every same-segment model with ≥5 active PARF listings whose variants fit a depreciation curve. Practicality isn't plotted — it's a body-shape constant within the segment, so it would be the same for every dot.
Quadrants
The crosshair marks the segment median on each axis. Top-right (Safe Bets) is strong on both; top-left (Hidden Gems) holds value above what the brand reputation suggests; bottom-right (Bargain Buys) is well-built but depreciates fast — buy cheap; bottom-left (High Risk) is soft on both.

Verdict

xDrive40i (B58 inline-six) is the durable hero of the gen — among BMW's most reliable modern engines, same family as M340i / 540i / 740i. xDrive50i / M50i (N63 V8) carries the same expensive oil consumption + timing chain + injector pattern as every modern N63 application. xDrive45e plug-in hybrid uses B58 + electric motor — adds HV battery as separate aged-car risk. Transfer-case shudder on a subset (wrong oil from factory — Service Information Bulletin). 2020 build hybrid battery debris recall is the specific paperwork check.

What's good

  • xDrive40i (B58 inline-six) with full BMW service history — same B58 family as M340i / 540i / 740i / X3 M40i / X4 M40i / 440i / M240i. The durable hero of the modern BMW lineup; no chain story, no HPFP weakness (when serviced); comfortable to 200k+ km. Most-confident pick on G05.
  • Transfer case service receipt (correct oil + fluid replacement) — Service Information Bulletin specified wrong oil at factory on subset. A car with the documented service has cleaner transfer-case horizon vs untouched units.

What to watch

  • xDrive50i / M50i (N63 V8) without recent timing-chain + injector receipts — same N63 expensive failure pattern as 7-Series G11/G12 + 5-Series + 6-Series. Turbos S$5-10k, all-8 injectors S$4-7k, chain S$6-10k. Without paperwork, walking the rational default.
  • 2020 xDrive45e hybrid without battery debris recall paperwork — manufacturing error on 2020 hybrid batteries (debris → cell short circuit → vehicle fire). BMW recall is safety-critical; verify via VIN.

Verdict

Predecessor to the curated X5 G05 — N20 / N55 / N63 BMW engine lineage. xDrive35i (N55) is the cult-buy reliable trim; xDrive50i (N63) carries the same expensive failure pattern. Cars 7-12 years old.

What's good

  • xDrive35i (N55) with full BMW service history — a boring, durable BMW inline-six.
  • Pre-Feb 2015 N20 with the timing-chain-guide recall already done — chain-guide recall already closed.

What to watch

  • xDrive50i (N63) without service receipts — the N63 carries the same expensive failure pattern; budget for it.
  • Air-suspension droop — universal BMW SUV pattern.

  • Air-suspension trouble at 12+ years — aged BMW SUV pattern.

Common questions about the BMW X5

How much does a used BMW X5 cost in Singapore?
Most used BMW X5 on the market are around 7 years old, asking roughly S$170k–S$186k (typically about S$180k). That's the age with the widest choice — and the most sellers competing, so it's where you'll have the most room to bargain.
How much does a used BMW X5 depreciate per year?
A used BMW X5 loses value at a fairly steady pace — around 20% a year — with no real plateau. An older one costs less but keeps falling at much the same rate, so there's no single 'bargain age': buy on price and condition, not on timing.
Is the BMW X5 reliable?
In our read, the BMW X5 scores 55 out of 100 on brand reliability. That still varies by generation and how the individual car was looked after, so always check the service history before you commit.
What should I expect to pay for a used BMW X5 with a given mileage?
It depends on the exact variant, age and mileage — a higher-mileage car should ask less. Use the price modeller on this page to get a fair-price range for a specific age and mileage, so you know what to offer.
Where do these BMW X5 figures come from?
They're worked out from current used-BMW X5 listings in Singapore — asking prices, mileage and registration years — not past transaction prices. We refresh them regularly, and we flag thin data rather than guess.
