4.2L V8 R8 with manual transmission or post-2012 S-tronic DCT — the V8 is the bulletproof Audi cult engine. Manual is the purist's choice (and trouble-free); S-tronic is the modern automated alternative. Sidesteps the R-tronic clunky-shift era.
