Used buyer’s guide
The we trust — and the ones we don’t
We rank on the data, not on who’s paying — so we can tell you what to shortlist and what to walk past.

Buying one at this age
You’re past the steep-depreciation drop and into the 5-year / 60–80k-km major-service window — timing belt (if not a chain), brake and gearbox fluid, suspension bushings.
Get the service book; a vague answer on the last major service is bills you’ll inherit.
Materially above typical mileage? 5–8% off asking is fair.
Worth your money
Start with these
Each shown at the youngest age your budget buys — the car you’d actually get. Only clean-record models make these picks.
Drag up for newer, better cars — your shortlist sharpens as you go. Asking prices, not sale; real deals run lower.

More that fit your budget
- Age & price
- The youngest example your budget buys, at that age’s typical asking — priced where it actually sits on the market, not a blended average.
- All-in cost/yr
- Running cost (tax, insurance, fuel, upkeep) + annual depreciation — the value the model loses each year, from its own price curve. A planning estimate.
- Down & loan
- 40% down (MAS LTV; cheaper cars qualify for 30%); monthly at the SG flat rate; tenure = lesser of 7 years or COE years left — cash-only once COE runs out.
- Indicative
- Some ages have thin supply; where the price rests on little recent data we mark it “indicative” — verify in person.
Buy with eyes open
Buy these only with the right checks
Each has a gen-wide catch — but a documented way to buy around it. Get these checks right, or walk.
Kia Sorento· 2014–2020
- How we flag
- Hand-researched from recalls, owner forums and marque service bulletins — not a score. Only a documented, generation-wide problem lands here.
- Which year
- Each shows the issue for the generation you’ll actually find used (the most-stocked one) — that’s the year range next to the model. A newer generation may be fine.
- Conflict-free
- We take no dealer or placement money — so we can tell you what to walk past, which no aggregator will.
